Rain or Shine, Texas Beer Stands Strong

October 2, 2017
Our plan this week was to tell the world all the great things about our newest product: The Beer Drinker’s Guide to Texas map. We just received them from the printer, they look great, and we were primed to send out samples and promos and launch sales when Hurricane Harvey hit.

It seems silly now to think anything other than We All Need To Pitch In And Help. Beer? Maps? How ‘bout a few hundred boats instead! How ‘bout some dry clothes! Hundreds of thousands of people are flooded out of their homes, businesses, neighborhoods and communities across 50 counties in Texas, and many more in other Gulf states. It’s a disaster of biblical proportions across the Gulf States that will affect the entire country for years to come. For a excellent scientific discussion, check out this story in Scientific American.

We thought, what can we do? First we made a contribution to the American Red Cross, and we urge you to do the same thing. Cash is king, and dollar donations can be used for the most needed items where and when they are most needed: on the ground helping families recover for as long as necessary.

Second, we know that brewers are a community-minded lot, and we have compiled a brief status list of South Texas brewers who have been affected by the storm, and may have opened their doors (when they weren’t flooded out) to all comers, for water, shelter, and salve for the soul in troubling times.

Third, as a way to donate and help even more, we would like all to know that 50% of all online map sales of the Beer Drinker’s Guide to Texas through 2017 will be additionally donated to American Red Cross Harvey Relief. Buy a map online, and one-half of the map price will be sent to help the American Red Cross. Sure, we’re not gonna make money this way. But the upside is huge for everyone.

By purchasing and using our map, you’ll be able to find all the Texas brewers within the vast flooded area, visit them, buy their beer and offer your handshake of help. You’ll be giving back to the community through your purchase, and you’ll be Supporting Your Local Brewer with your camaraderie and business.

This is a time when everyone can pitch in. No, it’s not silly to support people and businesses reeling from a devastating disaster. It’s our job. All of us. We hope that our brand-new Beer Drinker’s Guide to Texas will help bring brewers and beer drinkers together in the way Texans have always drawn together in times of need.

As Lorelei Brewing in Corpus Christi said to their customers, “It's been a rough few days for our amazing, supportive community and we have a lot of rebuilding to do together.” Amen to that, and don’t forget: Support Your Local Brewer!
